Abstract

Background: Flexible retrograde endoscopy was performed in the world for the first time since 1996 with positive results. Objectives: To evaluate the outcome of the treatment of kidney stone patients undergoing retrograde nephrolithotripsy by flexible ureterorenoscopy at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 28 kidney stone patients who underwent retrograde nephrolithotripsy by flexible ureterorenoscopy from 04/2023 to 09/2023 at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Results: The average age of patients was 45.13 ± 11.52, the proportion of men and women was 60.38% and 39.62% respectively, the common reason for hospitalization is low back pain, accounted for 85.1%, the proportion of patients with a history of open surgery to remove stones accounted for 10.71%, the average stone size on CT-scan was: 18 ± 4.5mm, stone location in renal pelvis 21.43%, both the renal pelvis and renal calyces account for 46.43%, kidney calyces accounted for 29.14%, The average surgery time was: 70.56 ± 20.37 minutes, average hospital stay was: 5.38 ± 1.79 days, the painful complications due to falling stone fragments accounted for 7.14%, 10.71% urinary tract infections, 3.57% bleeding, treatment results: stone-free rate was 89.29%, remaining stone rate was 10.71%. Conclusions: Treating kidney stones by flexible ureterorenoscopy is a safe and effective method with a high stone clearance rate.
