Abstract

Background: Internal jugular venous catheterization is commonly attempted at anathesia department for hemodynamic monitoring, in long surgeries. However, this technique can aslo have many complications, such as: pneumothorax, aterial damage, nerve damage,… Ultrasound – guidance can help the technique to be safer, improve sucess rate and reduce complications. Objectives: To determine sucess rate, complicaion rate and to identify some related factors of interal jugular venous catheterization. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study in 55 patients who were indicated for ultrasound – guided central line insertion before surgeries. Results: The sucess rate was 100%, the first time attempt rate was 100%, the mean time was 4 ± 1,13 minutes, there was no complication in our research. Conclusion: Ultrasound – guided internal jugular venous catheterization is an effective technique with high success rate and safe for the patients.
