THE EFFECTS OF SURGERY IN THE TREATMENT OF GENITAL WARTS AT CAN THO HOSPITAL OF DERMATO-VENEREOLOGY IN 2022-2023

Abstract

Background: Genital warts are common sexually transmitted diseases, caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus). It usually recurrent and there is no single method to cure completely, especially for large sized or horny warts. Objectives: To evaluate the treatment results of surgery in genital wart patients at Can Tho Hospital of Dermato– Venereology from 2022 to 2023. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 107 genital wart patients ≥18 years old. Patients were treated by surgery and followed up for 3 months. Results: After 1 months,


70.1% of the patients had good efficient, 29.9% of the patients had not good efficient. After 3 months, 62.6% of the patients had good efficient, 37.4% of the patients had not good efficient (p=0.008). Recurrence rate was 17.1%, the shortest time to relapse is 01 month and the longest time to relapse is 02 months. The side effects included: bleeding (1.87%), pain (23.4%) and edema (14.9%). Conclusion: Surgical excision is effective in the treatment of large sized or horny genital warts. However, combination therapy is the suggested way to decrease side effects.
