Abstract

Background: Scientific research is considered a challenging creative process and students in health science must constantly promote the ability to explore, learn knowledge and skills full of scientific and reality see off. Objectives: To describe the situation of knowledge, attitudes, practice and understand the barriers and some related factors on scientific research activities of students of the Faculty of Public Health, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2022. Material and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 413 students of the Faculty of Public Health, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2022 through a self-completed questionnaire. Results: The proportion of students with the right knowledge, good attitude and practicing/participating in scientific research activities were 40.2%, 51.3% and 29.5% respectively. Some common barriers in students in scientific research activities include: no idea (56.4%); lack of time/cannot arrange time (54%). Factors related to knowledge include: gender; course; cumulative grade point average; learning the "Health Scientific Research method"; soft skills and relationships (p<0.001); related to attitudes include: gender; grade point average; soft skills; related to practicing include: majors; learning the module "Health Research method"; soft skills and knowledge (p<0.001). Conclusions: The proportion of students with the good attitude about scientific research activities was at a quite high, but the proportion of students with the right knowledge and participating in scientific research were still low. It is necessary for students to early interaction with the "Health Research method" module combined with periodic scientific activities to connect students with guiding officers, inspiring scientific research, and research in students.
