Abstract

Background: The glenoid labrum increases the glenoid surface vertically by 75% and horizontally by 57%. Damage to the glenoid labrum significantly reduces shoulder stabilizing force. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the results of arthroscopic surgery for traumatic shoulder labral injuries. Materials and method: A prospective cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 41 patients with traumatic shoulder labral injury were undergone shoulder arthroscopy and labral reattachments were performed by suture anchor. Results: The mean followup time was 13 months. VAS score decreased from 4.46 to 0.73 (P<0.001). External rotation and shoulder abduction increased from 37.56° to 86.09° and from 86.34° to 163.91° (both P<0.001). The rate of return to sports was 88.24%, the rate of return to sports at the same level before injury was 63.33%. Rowe scores and ASES scores increased from 45.61 to 89.67 and from 43.21 to 92.1 (both P<0.001). There were no cases of infection or recurrent dislocation after surgery. Conclusion: Arthroscopic surgery is an effective method to treat traumatic shoulder labral injuries.
