Abstract

Background: Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is one of the most common cause of neurogenic claudication and low back pain. Posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) was considered the standard treatment for LSS. Objectives: (1) Characterizing the features of clinical symptoms and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of Multisegmental lumbar spinal stenosis (MLSS). (2) Result of surgical treatment of MLSS after 6 months at Can Tho Central General Hospital from 2019 to 2020. Materials and methods: Descriptive study of 39 patients with MLSS who underwent surgery by PLIF at Can Tho Central General Hospital. Evalutating the results of surgical treatment after 6 months using Japanese orthopedic association scoring system for treatment of low back pain (JOA score). Results: The men age of participants was 57.87 years with sex ratio of 0.86/1. Symtoms: 100% cases had low back pain and neurogenic claudication. 53.85% cases had both disc herniation and hepertrophy of the ligamentum flavum. The result of surgical treatment after 6 months: excellent 23%, good 46%, 31% fair, not any poor cases. Conclusion:  MLSS is a disease involved in middleage patient, usually occurred in woman. The characteristic syndrome most commonly is back pain and neurogenic claudication. MRI commonly occurred in disc herniation and hepertrophy of the ligamentum flavum. PLIF is a effective surgery in treatment of MLSS.
