Abstract

  Background: Periapical lesions are common with often poorly clinical symptoms. The disease is slowly a nd continuously development, widespread bone resorption and cause serious complications in case of not being diagnosed and treated promptly. Objectives: Describe clinical, paraclinical characteristics of periapical lesions at anterior maxillary region. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 36 patients with periapical lesions of the upper anterior tooth region who were treated at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from 2/2019 to 01/2021. Data were collected including the age of patients, clinical features containing of swelling and pain, the condition of related teeth, radiographic and histopathologic nature of the disease. Results: The mean age of patients was <30 (58.7%), the ratio of male to female was 0.7. Patients with chief complain in swelling with pain (52.8%) and pus fistula (30.6%) were detected. Most of related teeth (75%) were not endodontic managenment and had caries (66.7%). Bone swelling and pingpong sign accounted for 41.7% and 22.5%, respectively. The size of lesions was <2cm (69.4%). Most of lesions were found in radiographs was radiolucent (91.7%), oval feature (80.6%), and clear border (91.7%). Histologically, periapical cysts and granulomas was reported at 97.2% and 2.8%. Conclusion: Periapical lesions were a common in young patients. The clinical characteristics and paraclinical features of these diseases play an important role in diagnosis and treatment planning for clinician.
