Abstract

  Background: Hypertension is one of the most important public health problems. In Vietnam, according to a survey by the Ministry of Health in 2015, the rate of hypertension among people 18 years and older is 18.9%. Hypertension can be prevented if prevention is well done and reduced if adherence to treatment. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of hypertension, related factors among people 18 years and older and adherence in people being treated for hypertension in Chau Thanh district, Hau Giang province by 2020. Materials and methods: The study was conducted in Chau Thanh district, Hau Giang province. Data were collected in April 2020. Study subjects are people aged 18 years or older. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study on 1641 subject with multi-stage sampling. Results: The prevalence of hypertension was 22.5%. The associated factors for hypertension were statistically significant with p <0.001 including age group 40-59 years with OR = 2.7 and age group 60 years and older with OR = 5.0 compared to the age group 18-39, eating salty food with OR = 2.1 compared to people who do not eat salty and overweight-obese with OR = 1.9 compared with people who are not overweight and obese. Compliance rate for hypertension treatment accounts for 64.4%. Conclusion: The prevalence of hypertension remains high and adherence rates are low. Research related to hypertension should be continued with the emphasis on factors related to hypertension to reduce prevalence of hypertension. In addition, there should be interventions to increase adherence to treatment.
