Abstract

Background: Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) are one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in children worldwide. Evaluating the knowledge and practice of mothers whose children are hospitalized for acute respiratory infections can help develop educational measures for disease prevention, early detection, and timely referral of children to medical facilities. Helping reduce morbidity, prevent complications, and reduce the risk of death for children. Objectives: To survey the current status of knowledge and practice on acute respiratory infections of mothers with children aged 2-60 months at the Pediatrics Department, Long Khanh General Hospital from 2022 to 2023. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 383 mothers with children aged 2-60 months with acute respiratory infections hospitalized for treatment at the Pediatrics Department, Long Khanh General Hospital. Results: Through a survey of 383 mothers, we found that the percentage of mothers who have correct knowledge about signs of disease is 66.1%, about signs that need to take their children to the doctor immediately and wipe their noses is 54.3%. Mothers who practiced correctly about disease prevention accounted for the highest rate of 64.5%, choosing a place of medical examination and treatment at 35.2%, take care of children was 21.1%. Conclusions: It is necessary to have measures for health education on ARIs prevention for women of childbearing age and mothers with children under 5years of age on knowledge and practice of ARIs care and prevention in children.
