Abstract

Background: Isopure lens is the first pure EDOF (Extended Depth of Focus) intraocular lens to be used in cataract treated. Lenses using EDOF technology provide pretty good intermediate and distant vision, overcoming the disadvantages of monofocal lenses, but the cost is cheaper than multifocal lenses. Objectives: Evaluating the results of improving vision and safety after Phaco surgery with EDOF technology (Isopure lenses) to treat cataracts at Can Tho Ophthalmology and Odonto-Stomatology Hospital in 2022 - 2023. Materials and method: Patients over 40 years old, who were diagnosed with cataracts and treated at the Department of Ophthalmology, Can Tho Ophthalmology and Odonto-Stomatology Hospital, during the period from July 2022 to April 2023. Non-control clinical intervention study. The study sample size was 40 eyes, using convenient sampling method. Results: 100% of patients improved from 3 visual acuity or more. The mean surgical astigmatism was 0.31±0.24D. The mean residual refraction after 1 months of surgery was -0.34±0.39D. At 1 day, there were 2/40 eyes (5.0%) with first-degree incision burns and 5/40 eyes (12.5%) with mild corneal edema, which completely resolved after 1 week. There were no complications at 1 week, 1 month. There were 5.0% of eyes with mild or moderate night vision discomfort; 2.5% experienced mild halos and 7.5% experienced mild glare. Conclusion: Phaco surgery with EDOF (Isopure lenses) technology was very effective in the treatment of cataracts. 100% of patients improved from 3 visual acuity or more. No serious complications occurred. Adverse effects (night vision discomfort, halos, glare) were uncommon and of mild severity.
