STUDY ON ALCOHOL ABUSE AND RELATED FACTORS IN MEN IN THOI AN WARD, O MON DISTRICT, CAN THO CITY IN 2021

Abstract

Background: The problem of alcohol abuse has been increasing in recent years in Vietnam, especially for men, causing great damage to people and material things. Objective: To determine the rate and find out the factors related to abuse of alcohol in men in Thoi An ward, O Mon district, Can Tho city in 2021. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 250 men in Thoi An ward, O Mon district, Can Tho city on the cluster sample method. Collect data on the situation and some information related to alcohol abuse based on a built-in questionnaire, using the Audit scale to determine the alcohol abuse rate. Results: The proportion of men who abused alcohol is 21.2%. Recorded the factors related to alcohol abuse in the study subjects including religion (p=0.004), occupational (p<0.05), family history of alcohol abuse (p=0.007), daily/weekly viewing of alcohol advertisements (p<0.001), smoking (p=0.02), have participated in the treatment of problems caused by alcohol, beer (p<0.001), depression (p<0.001). Conclusion: The study contributes to providing more evidence about the actual status of alcohol abuse in men. The results can be used to support the development of policies to help reduce alcohol abuse locally.
