Abstract

Background: the flap of serratus anterior muscle is used to create simple or complex flap, flap surgery was first reported in 2007. Now, the flaps are regarded as the choice of the surgeon. Objectives: 1. Determined the average length and diameter of the blood supply artery of the anterior serratus flap.2. Describe the variants of the blood supply artery   of the anterior serratus flap. Materials and methods: Surgery and analysis on 120 specimens of chest area from 60 deads identified as Vietnamese adults aged 16 to 80 years. Results: in all the specimens, the serratus anterior muscle flap artery was derived from the back chest arteries(thoracodorsal) about 120/120 (100%), latissimus dorsi muscle artery (myocutaneous) of 24/120 (20%). The flap vessel stem consists of an artery and a vein with length of 9.0-15.0 cm, averaging 11.56 cm. The average diameter of artery is 2.22 ± 0.46 mm, the average diameter of vein is 2.22 mm. The Thoracodorsal artery for the branch feeding the serratus anterior muscle flap: 40% for 1 body, 26.7% for 2 bodies, 13.3% for 3 bodies, 6.7% for different kinds of bodies, 13.3% for combination form. The distribution of blood vessel to muscle type V is (83.7%), type I,II,III (16.7%). The serratus interrior muscle flap artery separated into the branch of myocutaneous of 24/120(20%), average diameter of 1.5mm. Conclusions: The serratus anterior muscle flap artery were derived from the back Thoracodorsal artery and  myocutaneous artery and there are 5 types for the branch from back check artery to flap.
