Abstract

Backgroud: The COVID-19 pandemic has become a global health issue and has had a major impact on education. Learning methods have been transferred from face-to-face training (in the classroom) to distance training (online training). Objectives: To determine whether dental students’s preparation for online education and compare complete remote education with classroom instruction in a dentistry undergraduate program and assess students' perspective. Materials and methods: A cross sectional descriptive study on 511 students of the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Students' perspective on distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic through a survey via google form. Using SPSS 20 to carry out Fisher's Exact Test, Chi-Square Test. Results: Learning time affected student preferences. The number of 4th and 6th-year students who prefer online to study was higher than other students and this difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Students had a supportive view of content transmission and appropriate evaluation in online training. The perspective of students' effectiveness showed a higher rate of students supporting online training. Conclusions: Despite some challenges, dental students could adapt to new remote education methods and most agree that combined learning can be done in combination with classrooms and remote study.
