EVALUATION OF THE TREATMENT RESULTS OF CLEFT LIP WITH TENNISON TECHNIQUE AT CAN THO EYE AND ODONTO – STOMATOLOGY HOSPITAL, 2018 – 2019

Abstract

Background: Orofacial cleft is the most common craniofacial malformation in the newborns. Patients who have cleft lip are affected on muti aspects including speech communication abilities, hearing, appearance and cognition, which could lead to long-lasting adverse outcomes on their metal and physical health. Objectives: To investigate the clinical characteristics and evaluate the results of cleft lip treatment with Tennison technique at Can Tho Hospital Eyes and OdontoStomalogy in 2018-2020. Materials and methods: Clinical cases followed up longitudinal on 32 patients with 19 males and 13 females who were diagnosed with cleft lips and recalled after 1 week and 6 months. Results: The age of subjects at time lip repair ranged from 6 months – 1 year (50%), the percentage of males (59.4%) higher than females (40.6%), the left cleft occupies more (56.2%), after 1 week of surgery, good rate of the healing and scars were 87.5% and skin flap was 100%. Overall surgical results after 1 week and 6 months were 96.9%, respectively. Conclusions: The Tennison technique brought good results for unilateral cleft lip.
