RSV INFECTION OF ACUTE BRONCHIOLITIS IN CHILDREN UNDER 2 YEARS OLD AT CAN THO CHILDREN HOSPITAL IN 2019-2020

Abstract
Background: Acute bronchiolitis is a common disease in acute lower respiratory tract infections and was the leading cause of hospital visits for children. Objectives: (1). To describe clinical and subclinical characteristics of acute bronchiolitis in children under 2 years old at Can Tho Children Hospital in 2019-2020; (2). To determine of RSV infection rate to acute bronchiolitis in children under 2 years old. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study on 131 children under 2 years old at General Pediatric Deparment, Respiratory Deparment of Can Tho Children Hospital, was diagnosed with accute bronchiolitis from May 2019 to April 2020. Results: Children <6 months old was 72.5%, boys 73% and girls 27%. The classification of bronchiolitis in clinical was 3.1% mild, 93.9% moderate and 3.1% severe. High number of cases occurred in: January, June and October, July, November and December. Coughing accounted for 96.18%, wheezing 100%, lowpitched wheezes 90.8% and coarse crackles was 84.73%, X-ray of the lung: infiltration was 90.84%, atelectasis was 1.53%. The prevalence of RSV infection in children with acute bronchiolitis is 10.7%. Boys with low birth weight, malnourished, hospitalized after giving birth and smokers have higher rates of RSV infection. Conclusion: Bronchiolitis occurs frequently in boys 73%, the prevalence of RSV infection in children with acute bronchiolitis is 10.7%.
