STUDENT’S ATTITUDE IN USING TRADITIONAL MEDICINE TO TREAT SKIN PROBLEMS AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY IN 2022

Abstract

Background: Skin condition is one of an important concern of public health. It affects all ages, sexes of different ethnics and countries, especially in tropical regions. Objectives: To study student’s attitude in using traditional medicine to treat skin problems. Materials and method: Crosssectional descriptions and analyze in 730 the 1st and 2nd students of all majors at Can Tho unversity of medicine and pharmacy in 2022. Results: 543 students (74,4%) have skin problems, in which acne acounts the highest rate (87,1%), the rate of combining between modern medicine and traditional medicine is 27,8%, only 2,8% students choose traditonal medicine to treat skin problems; the percentage of students needing to use traditional medicine in the future among students who have never had skin problems is 60.9% and have ever had skin problems is 71.6%, the most popular method is application (36.2%), efficiency level after using traditional medicine is at a relative level (54.8%), high efficiency level accounts for 26.1%; the need of using traditional medicine in traditional medicine students having ever had skin problems is 91,1% and never had skin problems is 81,1%, there is the difference between traditional students and other majors’ students (p<0.05). Conclusion: Most students have skin problems, in which acne acounts the highest rate, the current rate is at a low level, but the need using traditional medicine in the future is quite high, the most popular method is application, efficiency level after using traditional medicine is at a relative level, there is the difference between traditional students and other majors’ students in using traditional medicine to treat skin problems.
