THE PREVALENCE OF GESTATIONAL DIABETES MELLITUS AND SOME RELATED FACTORS AT LONG KHANH REGIONAL GENERAL HOSPITAL DONG NAI PROVINCE IN 2022-2023

Abstract

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disorder in pregnancy and the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus varies from 2 to 25% in pregnant women worldwide. Gestational diabetes mellitus leads to many complications for all the fetuses and mothers in pregnancy, delivery as well as long period after delivery. Objectives: To investigate the prevalence and related factors of gestational diabetes mellitus in pregnant women at Long Khanh Regional General Hospital Dong Nai province in 2022-2023. Materials and method: Cross-section among pregnancies from study of 380 pregnant women from 24 to 28 weeks of gestation who have antenatal care at Long Khanh Regional General Hospital, from September 2022 to February 2023. All pregnant women have undergone a 75-g 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test according to diagnostic criteria of the American Diabetes Association in 2018. Results: Survey of 380 samples has found that the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus was 25,8%. Factors related to gestational diabetes mellitus were statistically significant such as: pregnant women’s age ≥35 (OR=2.2; 95% CI: 1.2-4.1), family history of diabetes mellitus (OR = 2.8; 95% CI: 1.4 – 5.4), and persional history of gestational diabetes mellitus (OR = 5.8; 95% CI: 1.4- 23.6). Conclusion: The prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus is still high. Personal and family history of diabetes mellitus is associated with the development of the disease.
