Abstract

Background: Thalamic tumors account for only about 1-5% among all kinds of brain tumors. The clinical symptoms are varied, they can suddenly or persistently present. Diagnosis is mainly based on magnetic resonance imaging of the brain. Although the current treatment methods include surgery, accelerated radiation therapy, chemotherapy and proton beam therapy are used but their effects have not been as high as we expected and the prognosis is still poor. Case report:  We report a 54-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with thalamic tumor and was no more suitable for surgery. He has been treated with radiation therapy by Halcyon accelerator (Varian) and had great improvement. He was evaluated for complete response to treatment after a month of radiotherapy. Conclusion: Radiotherapy for brain tumors has been shown to be safe and effective, especially for midline gliomas such as thalamic tumors.
