Abstract

Background: HIV/AIDS is still a threat to the world's health and economic and social development. In recent years, the number of people infected with HIV/AIDS has continued to increase and the age group is gradually getting younger, especially students. Objectives: To determine the rate of knowledge, practice and accessibility to the HIV/AIDS prevention condom program and some related factors among college and university students in Can Tho city in 2021. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 1032 students ofuniversities and colleges in Can Tho city in 2021. Collected information included general information, knowledge and practice of HIV/AIDS infection prevention. Results: The rate of correct knowledge was 79.7, the rate of correct practice was 80.6%, the rate of accessing the condom program was 91.8%. Factors related to knowledge included: age group (OR=3.1), gender (OR=1.4), major and year of study (OR=2), access to media (OR=1.6). Factors related to practice include: access to media (OR=1.8) and access to the condom program (OR=2.2). Conclusions: Knowledge and practice of preventing HIV/AIDS infection among students are relatively high at 79.7% and 80.6% respectively. The rate of access to the condom program reached 91.8%. Factors related to knowledge include: age group, gender, major, year of study and access to media. Factors related to practice include: access to media and access to the condom program.
