EVALUATION OF PERMANENT FIRST MOLAR TOOTH LOSS, THE RATE OF TREATMENT TYPES AND TREATMENT DEMANDS OF DENTAL STUDENTS AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY IN 2018-2019

Abstract
Background: The permanent first molar tooth (PFM) play an important position in chewing function. Losing the permanent first molar tooth often affect other oral functions. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of permanent first molar extraction, and to investigate the effects of adjacent and opposite tooth toward the extraction, the treatment demands of Odonto-Stomatology Students. Material and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study in 433 dental students from the first to the sixth year at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2018-2019. Results: The percentage of patients with the PFM loss was 10.6%. The percentage of the PFM lost treatment was 38.1%, in particular 27.4% of patients had orthodontic treatment. The percentages of distant, proximal and extrusion movement were 44.3%, 71.2%, and 28.8% in the adjacent and opposite PFM. Students had treatment demands for the PFM 51.6%. Conclusion: The permanent first molar tooth loss had many different types of treatment, the permanent first molar tooth loss without early treatment can cause many deviations such as distant, proximal and extrusion movement. Therefore, the permanent first molar tooth should have more attention and care.
