EVALUATING THE RESULTS OF ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY IN THE TREATMENT OF RHINOSINUSITIS WITH NASAL POLYPS IN CAN THO IN 2019-2021

Abstract
Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is one of the most common chronic diseases, which significantly affects patients' quality of life. Endoscopic sinus surgery is considered the most basic surgery to treats this disease. Objectives: To describe the clinical, paraclinical features and evaluate the treatment results of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps by endoscopic sinus surgery. Materials and methods: 90 patients were diagnosed with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. They were treated by endoscopic sinus surgery at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and Can Tho ENT Hospital from March 2019 to March 2021. The method was a descriptive and prospective study with clinical intervention. Results: The rates of functional symptoms between preoperative and postoperative 3 months: nasal obstruction from 91.1% down to 31.1%, nasal discharge from 93.3% down to 32.2%, hyposmia from 63.3% down to 17.8% and cephalo-facial pain from 82.2% down to 11.1%. Endoscopic examination after three months of surgery: 91.1% of the incisions were clean without polyps, the commonest surgical complication observed was synechiae (7.8%). After three months of surgery, overall results showed that good with 75.6%, average with 20.0%, and bad with 4.4%. Conclusion: Endoscopic sinus surgery is a safe and effective surgery in treating chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps.
