Abstract

Background: Laparoscopic surgery has been shown to be safe and effective in the treatment of primary biliary stones. Objectives: To evaluate long-term results of treatment of choledocholithiasis by laparoscopic surgery combined with intra-operative cholangioscopy in elderly patients. Materials and Methods: A prospective, clinical interventional study on 72 patients with choledocholithiasis treated by laparoscopic surgery combined with intra-operative choledochoscopy from May 2016 to November 2020 at Can Tho General Hospital. The mean follow – up period was 24.17 months. Results: The mean age was 73.13 + 9.34 years. The successful rate of laparoscopic surgery was 97.22%. One patient (1.39%) had intra-operative duodenal perforation and one patient (1.39%) converted to open surgery. The mean operating time was 105.7 + 34.87 minutes. The rate of stone clearance was 90.14%. The rate of postoperative complications was 8.45%. The rate of stone recurrence was 7.04% during the follow – up period. Conclusion: Laparoscopic surgery for treatment of choledocholithiasis combined with intraoperative choledochoscopy in elderly patients is a safe and effective method with high rate of success and stone clearance, low rate perioperative and late complications.
