PRACTICING COVID-19 PREVENTION OF MEDICAL STUDENTS IN CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY

Abstract

Background: When the fourth wave of COVID-19 pandemic broke out in Vietnam, besides medical staff, police, army, etc more than a thousand turns of medical students from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) have directly participated in supporting epidemic prevention in Can Tho and many other localities. Objectives: Evaluation of the correct practice prevalence of medical students, University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study in 847 medical students from the freshman (course 46) to the fifth-year student (course 42) of CTUMP. The survey questionnaire includes 10 practical measures and 5 forms of updating information on COVID-19 prevention. Results: 693 (81.8%) students had fully implemented all 5 measures (5K of the Ministry of Health) and 508 (60%) students had all 10 measures. The prevalence of students practicing COVID-19 prevention measures at a “good” level was 76.5%. There were 795 (93.9%) students who practiced updating information at a "good" level, the main source of information was from social networks. In both the practice of measures and updating information, the prevalence of students achieving a "good" level was 74.4%. The prevalence of students with good practice in each course was > 70%, course 43 had the highest rate of good practice at 79.1%. Except for gender (p = 0.008), this research did not find a statistically significant difference in practice between courses (p = 0.272), academic ability (p = 0.743) and living characteristics (p= 0.944). Conclusions: Medical students have quite good practice in COVID-19 prevention practical measures to prevent COVID-19 should be maintained and further promoted in students of CTUMP
