KNOWLEDGE AND VOLUNTARY ATTITUDE OF MEDICAL STUDENTS OF CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY IN THE PREVENTION OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has developed around the world including Vietnam, right understanding and taking appropriate precautions are the most necessary and effective strategies to control this pandemic. Objectives: Survey on knowledge and attitude of volunteering in COVID-19 prevention and control of medical students, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (University of Medicine and Pharmacy). Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 847 medical students from the freshman (course 46) to the fifth-year student (course 42) of CTU. The survey questionnaire has 3 parts: personal information, assessment knowledge (15 questions) and volunteer attitude (3 questions). Results: The prevalence of students with good knowledge about COVID-19 prevention and control accounted for 21.7% (184 students). High-achieving students had better knowledge about COVID-19 than low-achieving students (p=0.002). There was a significant difference in the level of knowledge about COVID-19 between courses (p=0.023), the prevalence of good knowledge among the fifth-year students (course 42) was the highest among the five courses participating in the survey, with 31.8%. Most medical students were very enthusiastic in supporting COVID-19 prevention and control, with 86.1% of students agreeing to participate in the epidemic prevention and control force. Epidemiological tracing activities; supporting vaccination work and Can Tho city was the most registered to participate. Conclusions: Students have the right knowledge about COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control, but these subjects have a very active attitude to participate in supporting the prevention of COVID-19 epidemic.
