NUTRITION STATUS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL CHILDREN IN THAI BINH CITY: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY

Abstract
Background: Nutrition status plays an important role not only for physical and psychological development but also a significant impact on children’s learning performance. Objectives: To determine the prevalence children of malnutrition and obesity along with finding out some related factors in Thai Binh city in 2019. Materials and method: a cross-sectional study of 729 children from March to May 2019 by questionnaires, scales and height measurement. SPSS was used for analysing data. Results: Among 729 children, 14.4% malnutrition (14.2% male, 14.5% female). 11-year-old objects were the highest rate of malnutrition at 21.2%. 9.7% obesity (11.5% male; 7.7% female). 14-year-old objects were the highest rate of obesity 14.9%. Eating and breakfast habits were statistically significantly associated with the prevalence of obesity. Conclusion: The prevalence of malnutrition and obesity in Thai Binh were quite high. There should be a solution to improve this situation.
