RESEARCH KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICE OF RABIES PREVENTION AND THE RELATED FACTORS OF PET BREEDERS IN PHONG DIEN DISTRICT, CAN THO CITY

Abstract

  Background: Rabies is concerned as a health problem due to complicated disease, serious progress, and 100% death at the rabies attack. Objectives: 1) To determine the proportion of right  joint knowledge and practice about rabies deterrent of  pet breeders, 2) To find out some factors related to the correct general knowledge and practice about rabies prevention of dogs or cats breeders in Phong Dien district, Can Tho city in 2018-2019. Materials and methods: A crosssectional study was carried out of 233 respondents who represented households having dogs or cats at Phong Dien district, Can Tho city from 08/2018 to 05/2019. Results: The right joint knowledge and practice of surveyed participators about rabies prevention were 61.8% and 15.9% respectively in percentage. Indeed, 75.5% among of representors owned their correct knowledge about preventing from this disease; rabies vaccination for pets accounted for 50.2% and the treatment of wound due to scratching or bitting’s pets was 51.1%. Analysing of single variable and multivariable, all of them recorded the correlations between age brackets, the literacy, the prehistory’s personal and family had been bitten by dogs or cats and right joint knowledge about rabies prevention and the correlation between age groups and these right joint practice (p< 0.05). People had a true understanding about deter from rabies disease accompanying these deed that was higher 3.62 times (1.48-8.85) than people’s wrongful understanding, this discrepancy had a statistic significance with p=0.005. Conclusion: The rate of surveyed people about right general knowledge and practice prevention was 61.8% and 15.9% respectively. It is necessarily necessary to boost the informative and educational assignments that enhance the knowledge and practise of local people about prevention’s rabies disease.
