THE RESEARCH OF ANEMIA IN MALNOURISHED CHILDREN ATTENDING PRIMARY SCHOOL AT TRAN DE DISTRICT, SOC TRANG PROVINCE IN 2020

Abstract
Background: Anemia and malnutrition in children is a public health problem and a common situation in developing countries, including Vietnam. Objectives: to determine the rate and level of anemia in malnourished children attending primary school at Tran De District, Soc Trang Province in 2020. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 293 malnourished children from 6 to 10 years old attending primary school at Tran De District, Soc Trang Province from June to December 2020. malnourished children were defined by WHO 2007 with Z-Score BMI for age under -2SD. To diagnose anemia was hemoglobin (g/L) according to WHO standards (2011). SPSS 18.0 was used to analyze data. Results: the rate of anemia was 22,87%, in which the level of mild and moderate anemia were 61.19% and 38.81%, respectively. The rates of anemia among boys and girls were 49.25% and 50.75%, respectively. The highest rate of anemia was 26.87% in 8-year-old children, and the lowest rate was 11.94% in 10-year-old children. The rates of children aged 9, 6, 7 years were 16.42%, 19.40% and 25.37%, respectively. Conclusion: the rate of anemia in malnourished children is still high, special policies should be considered for malnourished children in primary school.
