THE CHARACTERISTICS AND TREATMENT RESULTS OF ESOPHAGEAL FOREIGN BODY PATIENTS AT AN GIANG CENTER GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract
Background: Foreign body (FB) in the esophagus is a common Emergency presentation. Esophageal FB in Viet nam is more common airway FB. It can make breath heavily and respiratory failure. If it were not detected early and treated in time, it can be cause inflammation, superinfection and lead to life threatening complication. Objectives: 1) To find out some reasons, kind of foreign objects and describe the stages of esophagus FB on patients. 2) Evaluate the treatment result of esophagus FB at An Giang center general hospital in 2020. Materials and methods: A cross – sectional discriptive study by a rigid esophagoscope to remove FB at An Giang center general hospital in 2020. Results: Patients with age group from 31 – 59 years is hightest (55.7%). Primary reason is eating and swallowing quickly (44.3%). The main kind of FB was fish bones (44.3%), most of FB was in the cervical esophagus (65.6%). Most of patients have been treated before entering the hospital (72.8%) and hospitalized with complication (3.3%). There was 97% patients getting good treatment results. Conclusion: Remove FBs in esophagus by a rigid esophagoscope good results. It is need to education increases awareness for everybody about danger of FBs in esophagus.
