COMPARISON OF OUTCOMES OF ENDODONTIC TREATMENT IN LOWER MOLAR TEETH WITH CHRONIC APICAL PERIODONTITIS USING BIOACTIVE GLASS AND AH26 SEALER

Abstract
Background: Currently, chronic apical periodontitis is effectively managed through nonsurgical endodontic treatment, with continuously improving clinical outcomes and expanding applications. Bioactive Glass sealer has demonstrated several advantages over conventional obturation materials. However, in Vietnam, there have been no published studies investigating the use of Bioactive Glass in the endodontic management of chronic apical periodontitis. Objectives: To describe the clinical and radiographic characteristics and to compare the treatment outcomes of non-surgical endodontic therapy in mandibular molars with chronic apical periodontitis obturated with Bioactive Glass and AH26 at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital during the 2025–2026 period. Materials and methods:A descriptive, interventional clinical study was conducted on two groups comprising 30 patients with mandibular molars diagnosed with chronic apical periodontitis indicated for endodontic treatment. Results: After 3 months, the reduction in PAI score in Group I (93%) was significantly higher than in Group II (60%) . After 6 months, the reduction in PAI score in Group I (100%) remained higher than in Group II (66.7%), with statistical significance. Conclusion: The endodontic treatment of mandibular molars with chronic apical periodontitis using Bioactive Glass as a root canal obturation material resulted in significant clinical and radiographic healing outcomes.
