Abstract

Background: Human resources for health (HRH) is a critical determinant for success in the provision of healthcare services. As a frontline provincial hospital, Long An General Hospital faces numerous challenges in sustaining and developing its workforce to meet growing demands for medical care. Objectives: To describe the status of human resources and to analyze factors affecting the retention and development of human resources at Long An General Hospital in the 2025-2026 period. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study using a mixed-methods approach. The quantitative component surveyed 384 staff members (selected from a total of 834 personnel) using a self-administered questionnaire, combined with secondary personnel data; the qualitative component included in-depth interviews with 12 managers and 03 focus group discussions. Results: The study recorded a staff-to-bed ratio of 0.89 staff/bed. The proportion of doctors in the professional workforce reached 17.9%, and the proportion of doctors with postgraduate degrees reached 42.3%. The survey findings and qualitative analysis identified key issues related to compensation policies, workload, the working environment, and training opportunities. Conclusion: The study provides useful initial information on the status and influencing factors of human resources at the hospital. The hospital should focus on improving compensation policies, fostering a positive working environment and developing appropriate recruitment and training plans in line with Ministry of Health regulations.
