EVALUATION OF CLINICAL PROFILES AND SURGICAL RESULTS FOR PEDIATRIC OTITIS MEDIA WITH EFFUSION WITH ADENOID HYPERTROPHY AT CAN THO CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL AND CAN THO
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: A significant proportion of pediatric otorhinolaryngology cases involve adenoid hypertrophy, which commonly predisposes patients to otitis media with effusion (OME). If not managed appropriately and timely, pediatric patients may experience recurrence, hearing loss, or other significant complications. Objectives: To describe the clinical and sub-clinical characteristics and evaluate the therapeutic outcomes of 45 patients with OME and adenoid hypertrophy at Can Tho Children's Hospital and Can Tho Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional, prospective interventional study was conducted on 45 pediatric patients diagnosed with OME and adenoid hypertrophy from June 2024 to August 2025. Results: The prevalence was higher in males (57.8%) than in females (42.2%). Otoscopic findings revealed tympanic membrane retraction in 58.5% of cases and bulging in 12.2%. Preoperative tympanometry primarily showed Type B curves (81.7%). The majority of patients (62.2%) presented with Grade III adenoid hypertrophy. The success rate of endoscopic ventilation tube insertion combined with adenoidectomy reached 95.6%. Conclusion: Endoscopic ventilation tube insertion combined with adenoidectomy yields positive therapeutic outcomes.
