Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common malignancies in women, with the risk of developing the disease tending to increase with age. In elderly patients, the use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy should be carefully considered based on the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of the disease. Objectives: To investigate the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of elderly patients with breast cancer receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy with the AC-T regimen. Materials and methods:  A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 14 breast cancer patients aged 60 years and older who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy with the AC-T regimen at Can Tho Oncology Hospital and Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from May 2025 to March 2026. Results: The mean age of the study population was 66.79 ± 5.07 years. The majority of patients had an ECOG performance status of 2, accounting for 71.4%. Tumors were most commonly located in the upper outer quadrant of the breast (78.6%). The mean tumor size was 5.35 ± 2.12 cm, and the mean pre-treatment CA15-3 level was 54.92 ± 53.10 U/mL. Most patients were diagnosed at stage III (92.9%), with cT4 accounting for the highest proportion (85.7%). Invasive ductal carcinoma was the predominant histological type (92.9%), and grade II was the most common histological grade (92.9%). Conclusions: Elderly breast cancer patients are often diagnosed at a locally advanced stage with relatively large tumor size and heterogeneous biological characteristics. Comprehensive evaluation of clinical and paraclinical features is important for guiding appropriate treatment strategies.
