PRELIMINARY OUTCOMES OF POSTERIOR LITHIUM DISILICATE FULL-CROWN RESTORATIONS FABRICATED USING A SINGLE-VISIT CEREC SYSTEM: A CLINICAL CASE SERIES

Abstract
Background: Chairside CAD/CAM has enabled single-visit dentistry, optimizing treatment time and patient experience. International evidence reports a 5-year survival rate of approximately 97% for CAD/CAM ceramic restorations. Among available materials, lithium disilicate is considered a favorable option for posterior teeth, with a reported full-crown success rate of about 93%. In Vietnam, clinical data on this workflow for posterior restorations remain limited. Objectives: To provide an initial clinical evaluation of feasibility, restoration quality, and patient satisfaction with a single-visit CEREC workflow for posterior full crowns. Materials and methods: This case series included 10 posterior teeth restored with lithium disilicate full crowns using a fully digital, single-visit workflow. Outcomes were assessed immediately after cementation (n = 10) and at 6 months (n = 2) using a combined evaluation based on the modified USPHS criteria and the FDI criteria. Results: The workflow reduced chairside treatment time within a single visit. On immediate evaluation, 100% of restorations achieved an excellent rating for marginal adaptation, color match, and anatomical form. At 6 months, the two representative cases remained stable, with no technical complications, secondary caries, or adverse periodontal response. Notably, 90% of patients reported being very satisfied, attributed to eliminating conventional impression procedures and temporary restorations. Conclusions: Posterior full-crown restoration with the CEREC system is feasible, demonstrating favorable preliminary esthetic and functional outcomes. These initial findings are consistent with international evidence and suggest strong potential for broader implementation of single-visit digital dentistry in Vietnam.
