EVALUATION OF TREATMENT OUTCOMES OF CHRONIC APICAL PERIODONTITIS IN MANDIBULAR PREMOLARS USING GUTTA FLOW BIOSEAL SEALER

Abstract
Background: Chronic apical periodontitis in mandibular premolars is a common endodontic condition that requires a well-sealed root canal filling to ensure periapical healing. Gutta Flow Bioseal is a novel bioactive sealer with favorable biological properties that needs to be evaluated for its effectiveness in treating this condition. Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics and evaluate the treatment outcomes of chronic apical periodontitis in mandibular premolars using Gutta Flow Bioseal as the root canal filling material. Materialsand methods: A non-controlled interventional study was conducted on 30 patients diagnosed with chronic apical periodontitis in mandibular premolars from October 2024 to November 2026 at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Results: The mean age was 42.3 years, with a male-to-female ratio of 1:1.3. The mandibular second premolar on the right side accounted for 50% of cases. After 6 months, the proportion of PAI 1–2 increased to 73.3%, while PAI 4–5 decreased to 13.3% (p < 0.001); the overall healing rate was 83%. Conclusion: Treatment of chronic apical periodontitis in mandibular premolars using Gutta Flow Bioseal as a root canal filling material yields high effectiveness and contributes to improving the prognosis of tooth preservation.
