CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND SOME ASSOCIATED FACTORS OF CELLULITIS AT CAN THO HOSPITAL OF DERMATO-VENEREOLOGY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Cellulitis is a common skin and soft tissue infection that may lead to serious complications if not diagnosed and treated promptly. Data on the clinical characteristics and selected associated factors of cellulitis in Can Tho remain limited. Objectives: To describe 9 clinical characteristics and identify associated factors of cellulitis at Can Tho Hospital of DermatoVenereology from 2024 to 2025. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to evaluate 9 clinical characteristics in 32 patients diagnosed with cellulitis at Can Tho Hospital of Dermato-Venereology from December 2024 to December 2025. Results: Prominent clinical characteristics included mild fever of 37.5-38°C (56.3%), lower extremity lesions (68.8%), single lesion (93.8%), lesion size 2-5 cm (62.5%), purulent (68.8%), pain (100%), erythematous plaques (84.4%); time from symptom onset to admission <3 days (62.5%). Some associated factors: diabetes with lesion count (p=0.011) and temperature (p=0.047); comorbidities with temperature (p=0.037) and lesion count (p=0.044); swimming with lesion count (p=0.006) and lesion size (p=0.001). Conclusion: Cellulitis is common in the over-40 age group with typical clinical presentation in the lower extremities accompanied by mild fever, pus, and pain with erythematous plaque lesions. Diabetes, comorbidities, and swimming are associated with lesion count, size, and admission temperature.
