CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PATIENTS WITH FACIAL CORTICOSTEROID ADDICTIVE DERMATITIS PRESENTING WITH TELANGIECTASIA, 2024- 2025

Abstract
Background: Facial corticosteroid addictive dermatitis (FCAD) has increasingly attracted attention in Viet Nam and many other countries due to its rising prevalence. However, to date, there have been very few domestic studies comprehensively evaluating the clinical characteristics of FCAD. Objectives: To describe the clinical characteristics of patients with facial corticosteroid addictive dermatitis (FCAD) presenting with telangiectasia in 2024–2025. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study of 42 patients diagnosed with FCAD at the FOB International Institute of Aesthetic Dermatology. Results: The majority of FCAD patients were female (85.7%), over 30 years old (61.9%), and predominantly workers/farmers and housewives (35.7%). Most patients used topical corticosteroids continuously for over 6 months (64.2%), mainly obtained from beauty facilities (35,7%) and primarily for the treatment of melasma (33.3%). Clinically, dermatitis (35.7%) and pigmentary disorders (23.8%) were the most common clinical subtypes. Most patients reported pruritus (71.4%), stinging/burning sensation (83.3%), and erythema (59.5%); branchshaped telangiectasia on the cheeks (54.8%) was most frequently observed. Conclusions: FCAD predominantly affects middle-aged women and is associated with prolonged use of topical corticosteroids, most commonly originating from beauty establishments. Therefore, stricter control over the provision of corticosteroids and improved public awareness are necessary to reduce dermatologic complications.
