Abstract

 Background: Medical laboratories need to know the turnaround time of biochemical testing to improve quality. Objectives: 1. Determine the duration of laboratory testing activities across the three testing phases at Hoan My Minh Hai general hospital in 2024-2025. 2. Compare laboratory turnaround time by test category and ordering time. Materials and methods: cross-sectional descriptive study on 1339 blood samples of patients at Hoan My Minh Hai General Hospital from August 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. Analysis in 3 stages: pre-test, test and post-test. Results: the median time for pre-test, test and post-test work was 18(15-22) minutes, 21(15-30) minutes and 4(28) minutes, respectively. The time taken on saturday was different from the other days of the week (p=0,009). Conclusion: The analytical phase exhibited the longest processing time, while the postanalytical phase was the shortest. A statistically significant difference was observed for tests ordered on Saturdays compared with those ordered on other days of the week (p<0.05).
