SURVEY CLINICAL AND PARACLINICAL FEATURES OF ASYMMETRICAL SINUS DISEASE IN ADULTS AT CAN THO EAR NOSE THROAT HOSPITAL IN 2019-2020

Abstract

  Background: Asymmetrical sinus disease is not as common as symmetric sinus disease, however, it is difficult to diagnose early clinically and has many complications if not detected early. Objectives: To survey the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of asymmetric sinus disease in adults at Can Tho Ear Nose Throat Hospital in 2019-2020. Materials and methods: A crosssectional descriptive study was conducted on 40 patients with asymmetric sinus disease at Can Tho ENT Hospital from 01/10/2019 to 30/07/2020. Results: The male/female ratio is 0,9/1. The highest percentage of occupation was housewife (20%). The rate of 16-30 years old group was the highest 45%. The rate of disease duration from 1 year to 5 years was the highest 62.5%. The right sinus group was more damaged than the left sinus group 63.6%. The common clinical symptoms were facial tension 100%, stuffy nose 97.5%, runny nose 85%, headache 80%, fatigue 70%, tinnitus and ear pain 65%. The nasal septum abnormality was 56.9%. 100% CT Scanner had images of sinus opacity and the sinus opening obstruction was 82.5%; the maxillary sinus damage was 86,4%; Pathological results: polype accounted for 45%, inflammation caused by bacteria 32.5%, fungi accounted for 15%, tumor pathology 7.5%. Conclusion: Asymmetric sinus disease is more common in middle age. The duration of the illness is long. It has diverse clinical symptoms. It is common in the maxillary sinus group. It is caused by bacteria, polyps, fungi, and tumor pathology.
