Abstract

Background: Currently, there are many different formulas for indirect quantification of LDL-cholesterol such as Friedewald and Vujovic. There have been many studies on the correlation between indirect methods to quantify LDL-cholesterol with the direct quantitative method in the world, but it is rare in Vietnam. Objectives: 1) To define the difference of LDL-cholesterol level quantification from Friedewald and Vujovic indirect methods to direct methods at Hoan My Minh Hai General Hospital in 04/2021-07/2021. 2) To define the linear correlate regression of LDLcholesterol level quantification from Friedewald and Vujovic indirect methods to direct method LDL-C. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out of 674 blood samples in patients indicated for cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C and LDL-C. The level of cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C and LDL-C were quantified by direct method, by the way,  the LDL-cholesterol level was calculated by Friedewald and Vujovic indirect methods. Results: The difference of mean LDL-C from Friedewald (Mean LDLdiff (PPTT-Fiedewald)) and Vujovic indirect methods (Mean LDLdiff (PPTT-Vujovic)) to direct method, respectively were 0.26mmol/L and 0.07mmol/L. Correlation coefficients of Friedewald indirect method was r=0.897 (p<0.01) and Vujovic indirect method was r=0.937 (p<0.01), compared with direct method. The linear logistic regression equation between indirect methods and with direct is y=0.812x+752 of Friedewald  and is y=0.918x+0.176 of Vujovic. Conclusion: There is a low difference of LDL-C concentration and a positive and strong linear regression correlation between the Friedewald and Vujovic indirect quantitative methods with the direct quantitative method.
