CAUSES AND LEVEL OF CHILDHOOD PULMONARY ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION AT CAN THO CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL FROM 2018 TO 2019

Abstract

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a rare but important cause of morbidity and mortality in children. Objectives: to determine main causes, levels and associated factors to childhood pulmonary arterial hypertension. Materials and methods: a cross-sectional study with 52 children under 16 years of pulmonary arterial hypertension in Can Tho Children’s Hospital from April 2018 to August 2019. Results: Main causes in childhood pulmonary arterial hypertension: group of congenital heart disease with left-right shunt (69.23%); lung parenchyma diseases and/or hypoxemia and hypertension veins pulmonary accounted for equal proportion (11.54%). Diseases of primary pulmonary vessels; the parenchyma and pulmonary vessels accounted for low proportion. Level of pulmonary arterial hypertension: light, moderate and severe level were 46.15%, 40.38% and 13.46% respectively. Associated factors: There was statistically significant difference with p<0,05 in the pulmonary arterial hypertension in girls and boys children, sweating or not, T2, level of heart failure, pulmonary perfusion. Conclusions: Level of moderate and severe pulmonary arterial hypertension accounted for 53.85%. Many factors related to the childhood pulmonary arterial hypertension such as gender, sweating, T2, level of heart failure, pulmonary perfusion.
