Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Determining the trends in colorectal cancer incidence in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) over the period of 1995–2016 will help HCMC health system to direct its resources efficiently toward effective cancer care and prevention. Objectives: Assessment of new incidence trends of colorectal cancer at Ho Chi Minh City in the period from 1995 to 2016. Materials and methods: A retrospective case series report of all patents recorded in HCMC cancer registry over the period of 1995–2006 who were HCMC registered residents and were diagnosed with primary colon or rectal cancer. Results: Crude incidence rates of colorectal cancer in HCMC over the period of 2012–2016 were respectively 16.9, 12.0 and 14.3 per 100,000 in males, females and both sexes. After adjusted for age, the age – standardized rates were respectively 28.9, 15.6 and 21.0 per 100.000. All of these rates are 1.8 to 2.2 times higher than those over the period of 1995–2006. Conclusion: Trends of colorectal incidence in HCMC increased over the period of 1995–2016 for males, females and both sexes with the heavier burden on males. These trends were similar to the global trends.
