DIABETIC FOOT ULCERS STATUS AND THE TREATMENT RESULTS ACCORDING TO PEDIS, TEXAS AMONG PATIENTS WITH DIABETES TYPE 2 AT CAN THO GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract
Background: The accurate classification and well control of factors related to wound healing play an important role in the management of foot ulcersin diabetic patients. Objectives: 1) To determine the rate of foot ulcer status according to PEDIS, TEXAS classification system; 2) To investigate the relationship between clinical and subclinical according to PEDIS, TEXAS classification system; and 3) To evaluate the results of foot ulcer treatment and related factors in patients with type 2 diabetes at Can Tho General Hospital. Materials and methods: cross-sectional descriptive study, the study was conducted on 89 type 2 diabetic patients with foot ulcers at Can Tho General Hospital from March 2019 to March 2020. Results: 65.2% patients are female, 89 patients with a mean age of 64 years were included in the study, and 84% in patientswith more than 5-year diabetes duration. Diabetic ulcers are found in the toe 53%, the instep 18%, the soles of the feet 13%, the heel 6% and other locations 10%. According to the PEDIS classification system, the percentage of grades 1-4 were 2.2%, 38.2%, 42.7% and 16.9%, respectively. According to TEXAS classification system, the percentages of grades from 0-3 were 2.2%, 37.1%, 43.8% and 16.9%. Bone resorption on X-ray, ultrasound stenosis, and vascular stenosis on ABI are factors related to the classification on PEDIS, TEXAS system. The average time to take care of ulcers was 11.92 days, the rate of ulcer healing accounted for 76.4%, vascular stenosis on ABI and TEXAS classification ≥ 2 increases the risk of failure in ulcer healing by 13.19 times and 4.32 times respectively. Conclusion: moderate to severe leg ulcers are still high. The presence of osteomyelitis and arterial stenosis are factors that associated with the severity of diabetic foot ulcers in PEDIS, TEXAS classification system The rate of ulcer healing accounts for 76.4%. Vascular stenosis on ABI and TEXAS classification ≥ 2 are factors that increase the risk of failure in ulcer healing.
