THE CLINICAL, SUBCLINICAL, BACTERIAL CATEGORIAL CHARACTERISTICS, AND TREATMENT RESULTS ASSESSMENT OF FULL MONTH NEWBORN SEPSIS AT CAN THO CHILDREN HOSPITAL IN 2019-2020

Abstract
Background: Newborn septis is rewarding concerned health issue due to the intricate clinical disease, the progress is often serious, with an easy to leave the sequels and the mortality stands second after the respiratory failure syndrome for infants. Objectives: 1) Describe the clinical and subclinical characteristics of sepsis in term infants; 2) Determine bacterial type and antibiotic resistance rates in the treatment of sepsis in term infants at Can Tho Children Hospital in 2019-2020. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out of 50 the term infants with aged 0-28 days, who were diagnosed of newborn sepsis based on the clinical and subclinical at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Can Tho Children Hospital from 04/2019 to 05/2020. Results: Themain clinical characteristics were fever, chest concaveness, poor feeding, bloating, and primary reflex decreased with the rates of 52.0%, 54.0%, 80.0%, 72.0%, and 40.0% respectively. The main subcinical characteristics were leukocytes increased, Hct, CRP, prolacalcitonin, and infitration on lung X-raywith the rates of 40.0%, 56.0%, 28.9%, 92.0%, 45.2%, and 96.2%. The possitive blood culture rate was 36%, in which Gram (-) accounted for 28%, Gram (+) accounted for 72% (of which Staphylococcus 72%). Antibiotic results showed that Klebsiella bacteria were 100% sensitive to Netromycin and Tienam, but 100% against Ampicillin and Gentamycin. For Staphylococcus bacteria, there were 100% sensitive to vancomycin, 83.3% sensitive to Tienam but 58.3% resistant to Cefotaxim, 66.7% to Ceftriaxon, and 75% to Erythromycin. The most commonly treated antibiotic was Cefotaxim 86%. Conclusions: the clinical characteristics of newborn sepsis were diversity; the subclinical specialized in the sysmetic inflammation response syndrome. The rate of possitive blood culture was low at 36%, of which Gram (+) bacteria made up of 72%. Gram (-) was sensitive with Tienam, Netromycin, while Gram (+) were sensitive with Vancomycin and Tienam.
