THE OUTCOME OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY FOR COLORECTAL CANCER IN CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY HOSPITAL

Abstract
Background: According to GLOBOCAN 2020, colorectal cancer is the fifth most common malignant disease in Vietnam. Laparoscopic surgery has been applied and achieved promising results in colorectal cancer treatment. We perform this study to evaluate the role of laparoscopic surgery in treating colorectal cancer. Objectives: 1) To evaluate clinical manifestations and imaging of colorectal cancer; 2) Evaluate the results of laparoscopic colorectal cancer resection. Materials and methods: A retrospective study was conducted with 690 colorectal cancer patients who were diagnosed with colorectal cancer and underwent laparoscopic surgery in Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from 2012-2021. Results: The study population included 405 males and 285 females, the average age of the patients was 53.6 ± 11.3 years. The mean length of the procedure was 203 ± 74 (min). The mean length of hospital stay was 8.9 ± 3,7 (days). Most of these cases were moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma (85.4%). The incidence of anastomotic leakage was 4.3%. Conclusion: Laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer is feasible and safe.
