Abstract

Background: Quality of life (QoL) is much important in diabetes researches. In Can Tho city, data on the QoL and related factors of diabetes mellitus patients, especially with the SF-36 toolkit are limited. Objectives: This study aimed to determine QoL score and elicit some related factors of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in O Mon district, Can Tho city in 2019-2020. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 158 diabetes type 2 outpatients at O Mon Medical Center, Can Tho city. Main data collection consisted of QoL scores using short form 36 Vietnamese version including 8 domains (physical functioning, role-physical, bodily pain, general health, social functioning, role-emotional, mental health, vitality), and some related factors to QoL of diabetes type 2 outpatients. Results: QoL mean scores of 8 health domains ranged between 45.31 and 81.72. Social functioning had highest score and general health had lowest score. Main related factors for QoL mean scores were: age, occupation, economic status, treatment duration, comorbidities, complication, insulin injection and fasting blood glucose. Conclusion: The patients were older patients, retired or housewife, lower economic status, had longer treatment duration, comorbidities and complication, used insulin injection, had higher level of fasting blood glucose had lower QoL mean score.
