THE SURVEY ON RELATED FACTORS TO RECURRENT TUBERCULOSIS IN CAN THO CITY IN 2011-2016

Abstract
Background: Recurrent tuberculosis is recognized as a serious problem for public health. Objectives: Determining factors related to recurrent tuberculosis in Can Tho city. Materials and methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted on 1591 new tuberculosis patients (AFB + and AFB-) who recovered from TB treatment in 2011-2013 and continued to follow up from January 2014 to December 2016 in Can Tho city. Methods of data collection were clinical examination, X-rays, sputum tests and interviews. Data were analyzed with SPSS 26.0 software. Results: The average age of patients with newly completed tuberculosis treatment was 47.5; lowest 4 years old, highest 95 years old. Male was higher than female, 75.8% and 24.2%. The risk of TB recurrence was higher than smoking and drinking, 4.3 and 3.4 times respectively with p<0.001. Conclusions: The determination of exposure factors as smoking and alcohol consumption in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis after successful treatment which has clinical and public health implications in predicting pulmonary TB recurrence.
