PREVALENCE AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS OF PREECLAMPSIA IN WOMEN WITH GESTATIONAL DIABETES MELLITUS AT CAN THO OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY HOSPITAL IN 2024-2026
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Preeclampsia is a serious obstetric complication and a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Gestational diabetes mellitus is considered an important risk factor for preeclampsia. Objectives: To determine the prevalence and identify factors associated with preeclampsia among women with gestational diabetes mellitus at Can Tho Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from 2024 to 2026. Materials and methods: A prospective cohort study with analytical components was conducted on 400 pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus who attended antenatal care at Can Tho Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from June 2024 to February 2026. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors independently associated with preeclampsia. Results: The prevalence of preeclampsia was 18.3%. Among affected cases, 82.2% had preeclampsia without severe features and 41.1% were preterm preeclampsia. Preeclampsia was independently associated with maternal age (OR = 3.03; 95% CI: 1.76–5.22) and pre-pregnancy BMI (OR = 1.99; 95% CI: 1.44 – 2.73). Conclusion: Preeclampsia was common among women with gestational diabetes mellitus, and early identification of risk factors may help improve pregnancy management and maternal - perinatal outcomes.
