Abstract

Background: Chronic urticaria is a common inflammatory skin disease characterized by recurrent wheals and pruritus, leading to impaired quality of life. Bilastine 20 mg, a second-generation non-sedating H1-antihistamine, is recommended for its management. Objectives: To describe clinical characteristics and evaluate treatment outcomes of chronic urticaria with bilastine 20 mg. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 50 outpatients with chronic spontaneous urticaria treated with bilastine 20 mg once daily at Can Tho City Dermatology Hospital from 2025 to 2026. Results: Pruritus and wheals were present in all patients. 54,0% patients had no identifiable triggering factors. Mean UAS7 significantly decreased from 5.52 ± 1.15 at baseline to 2.05 ± 0.85 at week 2 and 0.65 ± 0.70 at week 4 (p < 0.001). After 4 weeks, all patients achieved mild disease or complete symptom control. DLQI improved markedly from 13.2 ± 3.4 to 0.9 ± 0.8, with 88% reporting no or minimal quality-of-life impairment. Adverse events were infrequent (6%) and mild. Conclusions: Bilastine 20 mg once daily is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for chronic urticaria, providing significant symptom control and quality-of-life improvement.
