Abstract

Background: Knee osteoarthritis causes pain and reduced quality of life in older adults. When conservative medical management is no longer effective, total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is considered the definitive treatment. Postoperative pain affects functional recovery, prolongs hospital stay, increases the risk of complications, and reduces patient satisfaction. Objectives: To evaluate the outcomes of total knee arthroplasty using a multimodal analgesia protocol. Materials and methods: A case series of 32 patients with severe knee osteoarthritis who underwent total knee arthroplasty with multimodal analgesia at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from May 2025 to December 2025. Results: Thirty-two patients were followed for 3 months postoperatively. Outcomes were assessed using the 2011 Knee Society Score (KSS 2011). The rates of very good and good objective knee scores were 93.75%, and very good and good subjective functional scores were 87.5%. Complete fulfillment of patient expectations was achieved in 78.13% of cases, and 81.25% of patients reported being very satisfied after surgery. Conclusion: Total knee arthroplasty with multimodal analgesia improves knee joint function, meets patient expectations, and enhances postoperative satisfaction.
