A SURVEY ON ADVERSE DRUG REACTION REPORTING AT THANH VU MEDIC GENERAL HOSPITAL IN BAC LIEU FROM 2020 TO JUNE 2023

Abstract

 Background: Adverse drug reactions are among the causes that increase morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Most adverse drug reactions are preventable; therefore, adverse drug reactions reporting plays an important role in providing data to ensure medication safety. Objectives: To investigate the status of adverse drug reactions reporting at Thanh Vu Medic Bac Lieu General Hospital. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 117 adverse drug reactions reports stored in the Department of Pharmacy from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023. Data were processed using Microsoft Excel 2019 and Stata 14. Results: The number of 117 adverse drug reactions reports from 2020 to 2022 showed a decreasing trend; however, by June 2023, 16 cases were recorded, and it is expected that by December 2023, the number may increase compared to 2022. Among 117 reports, females accounted for 74.4%, and the age group of 18–50 years accounted for 78.6%. The most commonly suspected drug groups were analgesics (44.7%) and antibiotics (29.6%). The most frequent dosage form was intravenous infusion solutions (39.6%). Common adverse drug reactions manifestations included rash (44.3%) and pruritus (26.2%). Most adverse drug reactions were mild and completely recovered (99.1%). Nurses were the group reporting the most adverse drug reactions (68.4%). Conclusions: Adverse drug reactions reporting activities at the hospital showed a decreasing trend, and participation remains limited. It is necessary to strengthen training, encourage healthcare staff, and monitor high-risk drug groups for adverse drug reactions.
